Due to the recent news of COVID-19 (aka the Coronavirus), it is important that you all are staying indoors and keeping safe! Now we all know that being indoors, staring at the same four walls can get a bit boring so with a little bit of help from Team Vlogstar, below we've listed 10 things that can keep you occupied during this pandemic.
1. GET CREATIVE IN THE KITCHEN
The next three weeks will test even the best of home cooks with all meals having to be prepared at home. But with supermarkets remaining open – and hopefully well stocked – it means we will have all the tools necessary to make some healthy meals. With so much time to spare, why not get creative in the kitchen? Find some recipes online to recreate at home and get the family involved! Or you can always play it safe and order a cheeky takeaway.
2. DO A SPRING CLEAN
It is that time of year after all, so why not carry out that long-awaited spring clean? By doing so, it will get you off the sofa and get your body moving. A spic and span home is always a positive for your mental health.
3. READ A BOOK
Yes… before the age of film and TV, this is how people would once pass the time. A good book will keep you entertained for hours or if it’s non-fiction, teach you something new. If you don’t have any books to hand, try and download some if you have an iPad or Kindle. Audible is a great audio platform if you're not an avid reader!
4. DO SOME EXERCISE
Three weeks spent indoors can easily translate to majority of your time spent slouching on the sofa. It’s important for your circulation and general health that you try to get some form of exercise in. Try to do some stretching in the morning or pop on a YouTube tutorial for some yoga or low or high intensity workout – depending on what your preference is.
5. PLAY SOME BOARD GAMES
If you are in lockdown with your family then a heated game of Monopoly could be just what the doctor ordered. If you’re lucky enough to have a pack of cards of even Uno, playing this in the sun could be 10 times the fun.
6. GET SOME SUN (WHEN IT'S OUT)
Staying indoors during this time can run the risk of seeing your Vitamin D levels drop – as well as affecting your mental health. If you have a garden or a park nearby, try to get outside each day or if you have a balcony, try to make sure you get some sunshine.
7. PRACTICE MEDITATION (DAILY IF POSSIBLE)
Set the tone for a calm day with a ten minute meditation. You'll get the most out of the silence and stillness of the mind if you do it first thing in the morning, before the day's stresses creep in. If you've never tried it before, there's no time like the present.
8. VIDEO CALL YOUR FRIENDS
As we can't physically go out to see friends, why not utilise technology and give them a call! Have a laugh, share stories and keep in contact whilst at home. Whether it’s for a morning coffee meeting, a family get-together or a late-night gaming hangout - get online and get chatting!
9. LISTEN TO NEW SOUNDS
Music is awesome and you have so many options here. Try listening to a new genre, album or even artist. If you have any instruments lying around at home, pick it up and practice playing it (or learn if you've never touched it before). Gain a brand new skill to show your friends when you meet up again!
10. GROW YOUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL
Of course, we'd always recommend you to grow your YouTube channel! This is the perfect time get some new content out, brush up on your editing techniques and try new things that you've been putting off for the longest time. Put out daily content if you can and share it online. Tag us, we'd love to see what you come up with!
We hope that these ten tips help! Make sure you're all practising social distancing and are following the new government rules that have been put in practise.
Once we get the all-clear that COVID-19 is no longer an issue, we can continue making Vlogstar Challenge the fun positive experience it is for hundreds of young people who will no doubt by then actually need an outlet to voice their feelings and positive aspirations.
Stay safe everyone!
